OTHERS

Over the course of time I have learned that the concept of “feeling at home” coincides with the feeling of well-being and safety  and with that desire for unconditioned  abandonment that only some places can instill.
To find a similar state of mind (outside my home) I often think of a small village in the Upper Engadine: La Punt – Chamues.
In this fascinating ensemble of stately homes and inns of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries – among the splendid homes of Giorgio Armani and Georg Von Opel – I found “my” refuge.

It is called Ches’Ota: it is an ancient manor house dating back to 1595 renovated and transformed into an elegant three-storey home which has however retained the characteristic original architecture.

I often wonder how  this place manages to calm  and relax me so profoundly…

Could  it be the warm and welcoming atmosphere that recalls the “old” Stuvas?
The low ceilings, the warm colors of the fabrics, the wood, and the small Engadine-style windows – from which I can observe the world without being seen – recreate the softened atmosphere of a safe nest.
Or could it be the owners’ love for modern art?
It is present everywhere, in the paintings of well-known artists and in the art books scattered in every corner…
After all, art is at home here: during the 2013-2014 winter season, Ches’Ota was in fact open to the public to exhibit some installations by Michelangelo Pistoletto.
One thing is certain: in Ches’Ota I can feel protected and pampered with the feeling – which never abandons me – of being able to be myself without having to justify my behavior or moods.
Without forgetting that when I want to go out, the perfect mix of natural wonders, cultural events and charming social life that only Engadine can offer awaits me out there.
