lf you like the idea of waking up one morning and feeling that the most beautiful lake in the world is only yours …Or if you are set on offering your guests an event with such a glamorous atmosphere that it will be difficult to forget … Well, my advice is Villa Bonomi.
This early 1900s villa, is now living a new life thanks to an accurate restyling that embodies the aesthetics of the event and flower designer Vincenzo Dascanio.
Of course, when I think of this place, my memories go back to the 80s, when Villa Bonomi was the symbol of the flourishing silk entrepreneurship of Como.
In those years I used to accompany my father on his visits to Mr. Antonio Ratti, the great Como silk entrepreneur and patron, owner of the villa.
And here, I was lucky enough to admire those wonderful rooms adorned with brocade curtains and paisley-patterned fabrics (an unmistakable signature of Ratti) that over the years have welcomed great Italian designers such as Versace, Armani and Etro and great architects such as Caccia Dominioni.
But revisiting the villa today in its sparkling guise I am literally enraptured by the care with which all the interior spaces have been enhanced: the precious hand-made ceiling decorations, the mirrors in the living room that reflect the lake from every angle and the restored furnishings of great value.
And how could I describe the 4-hectare park, designed by the famous landscape architect Pietro Porcinai?
An immense flowered terrace – complete with a verdant promenade – overlooking the first basin of Lake Como.
From here you can enjoy a thousand wonderful views but never ever will you be able to decide which is the most suggestive for your memorable photos!
Villa Bonomi, built in the 1920s, takes its name from the famous entrepreneur Anna Bonomi. It was given to her for her sixteenth birthday by her father Carlo, creator of numerous Italian villas.
The villa was renovated 40 years later by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni who was commissioned by the “Cavaliere del Lavoro” Antonio Ratti.
The stunning four-acre garden, designed by Pietro Porcinai, the most important Italian landscape designer of the twentieth century offers an unforgettable view of Lake Como’s luxury residences. Furthermore, the unique furniture has been recently renovated.
