You know those wonderful surprises that you just don’t wait for? Well, for me Villa Cristina was just that, and I want to tell you how it happened. One day, Giuliano, the owner of the villa, invited me to visit his property just a few minutes from Bellagio. So, on an early summer’s day I found myself at the gate of this enchanting villa. First of all, here I look out over two branches of Lake Como enjoying the breathtaking view of the Alps and lake. Inside the 12,000 square meter park, you will be completely enveloped and isolated by the surrounding nature, offering you grandeur, vastness, and total privacy, I am struck by the wonderful view, the centuries-old plants and my favourite corner with the fountain. You can dine or enjoy an aperitif on the spacious terrace of over 120 square meters, which offers superb views of the Alps, stunning sunsets, and romantic glimpses of the lake, including the enchanting Varenna. The heated infinity pool, measuring 84 square meters, is located in the sunniest area of the park. Its shape and materials create a natural connection with the surrounding nature, providing a truly unique and immersive experience. But the real surprises are inside the villa where I am amazed by the artful way in which design elements have been combined with furnishings from different ages. The secret, Giuliano tells me, is in his family’s wonderful eclectic temperament. To me, it looks like a real rooms of wonders, made precious in every detail. Once the visit was over, Villa Cristina became – to all intents and purposes – one of my Best Places: an unconventional interpretation of the concept of luxury; an experience different from all those I have ever enjoyed on Lake Como.
