A clear sky, an intense light on the lakeand a crisp wind that reminds me that it’s not spring but only the end of January.
A short walk through the village of Laglio – still semi-deserted given the season –brings me to Villa Ortensia.
I immediately have the feeling that the house, in addition to being objectively beautiful and elegant, has a welcoming and generous soul.
An intuition immediately confirmed by the warm welcome from the owners whom I meet today for the first time.
Francesca and Luigi have a brilliant and calm way of talking and immediately know how to put me at ease while I sip an impeccably served coffee and admire the large living room with golden reflections.

The time passes quickly over a pleasant chat: the morning is about to end and it’s time to visit the villa.
While visiting the insideI slowly savour the elegance of the furnishings and the attention which has been given to the smallest details.

The outdoor spaces – the gardens dating back to the 18th century, the neoclassical colonnade, the picturesque bridge connecting the villa to the lake – seem to me an excellent example of how – at times – the natural and material elements are able to combine in a microcosm made up of order, quiet and grace.

I immediately realize that here at Villa Ortensia I am not simply a guest of a luxurious residence on Lake Como, but I am invited to live the daily life and the everyday habits of my guests.
For example, witnessing an amusing quarrel between the two about where to place a couple of ancient sculptures, immediately made me empathize with them. All this allowed our professional relationship to quickly become friendship and mutual respect.

I’m grateful to Francesca and Luigi for making me discover their world and their idea of beauty but above all for making me fall in love with another place that, I have no doubts, will enchant you too.
